The European Network for Public Service Interpreting (ENPSIT) was founded in Brussels in October 2013. The Flemish Agency for Integration (at the time Kruispunt Migratie-Integratie, 'Junction Migration-Integration', now Agentschap Integratie en Inburgering, 'Agency for Integration') had taken the initiative to bring together a multitude of PSIT stakeholders at the Committee of the Regions. There a list of political recommendations was adopted which is still at the heart of ENPSIT's mission today.
At this meeting, the firm intention was voiced to formally set up an organisation that would convert an informal network into a more sustainable organisation. On 2 April 2014 ENPSIT held its inaugural meeting at the Universitiy of Alcalá, where the statutes were adopted, founding ENPSIT as a non-profit association under Belgian law.
Since 2019 ENPSIT has taken the InDialog conference under its wings, bringing together researchers and practioners from the field of PSIT.
